Distortion!

Hello there my friends! and welcome back! I didn't write anything yesterday because I went to play indoor soccer and I was exhausted afterwards. I went home, made a sandwich, and fell asleep while talking to Nancy on google hangouts. Wednesday was a pretty normal day, had lunch with my friends, worked most of the day then went to play indoor soccer and the rest of the story, well you already know.

Today was an exciting day! I got to DTU around 10:00 am after sleeping in after the tiring game the day before. Then at 11:00 there was a presentation. The presentation was at the Riso Laboratory. It is a laboratory where they do research in wind energy as well, but its not near campus. They have a system where DTU and Riso are connected and you can be at DTU and connect to Riso using the special box on the screen in the conference room. So while me and 2 friends figured out how to do that the conference was halfway done. So we saw the end of it and then I left. It was on ice shedding on wind turbine blades.

Then I went back to the lab and a couple of minutes later Dimitri, a student from Russia asked me if I was going to the presentation, and I'd be like "What presentation"? So he said something like "It's a presentation of wind turbine CFD", and then I was like "sure, so hows giving the talk" and then he'd be like "Me!" haha, so that was funny. Then I went to the presentation, and it was a great presentation! He talked about multigrid method on a rotating mesh. For those of you tech people from Hopkins, [they used a V cycle multigrid algorithm with weird boundary conditions for the sliding mesh, not the usual u=0 BC as in our Num Methods Project.]

I've done some research advancements! Hopefully I'll have some pretty pictures to post soon! I'm looking forward to getting some really good work done this summer! For now it should be enough to say that "cvs update -dP -C" will update your files from the repository versions and overwrite them if there are any local changes. hahaha I spent a while on this today.

One thing that's awesome in Denmark is public transportation. I got my ticket for unlimited transportation in the zones I need to move around in and it cost about $300 for the ~50 days I'll be here. It's a bit expensive, considering the NYC unlimited pass for $100, but it's a great service! The buses run at least once every 10 minutes most of the time! I've never waited for more than 10 minutes for any bus!

This is how the buses look like!
My bus coming! After waiting like what, 5 minutes!?

At some point today it started raining. Then Everyone was looking at Mads because he was opening the window. He was trying to clean a bird's business which was on the window. The rain didn't work, so he went and did it by himself! A picture documenting this event is shown below, haha.

Mads on the job!
I then left around 5:30 and when I got off the bus stop, it was madness! The Distorion had begun! An electric music party that's around the city and it starts at my neighborhood! As soon as I got off the bus the police qere closing the streets. Then I walk down and halfway to my place I see 3 teenage boys and one of them is yelling at a lady that was riding her bike. I had no idea what he was saying but the cops saw him and called him over and went to the side of a building to tell him something (Achikimangueeee! hahaha). Then I got home and saw the party from my place. I stayed in tonight but I will go and check it out tomorrow after I go to an ATM and have some Danish cash to get a beer. hahaha

It has been hard getting money since my credit card requires a PIN and I don't have it, since its not used in the US. I have already requested one and I will get it soon. In the mean time I get cash from my debit card. I've noticed coke is really expensive! Like $4 for a bottle. The good thing is you get money back when you recycle the bottles you use! So every 4-6 bottles of something you'll get one for free! depending on which drink it is.

Here are some pictures of the Distortion! The funny thing is as I was writing this blog I heard the Macarena song playing! hahaha So here's a video of the Danish people dancing to the Macarena!

  1. "I'm looking forward to getting some really good work done this summer! " Didn't you say you were in Denmark on vacation?? Lol.

I think the coke is expensive in order to protect the environment from plastic bottles. You should not complain being the environmentalist that you are.

  2. hahaha yes I know! I need to do some work though :/

I think it's awesome that they pay you for the plastic bottles! They have a machine in the grocery store for doing this! I'll use it one of these days and post a picture! There are almost no cans nor bottles on the ground. It makes the city stay very clean! haha
